ABSTRACT

Cumin is one of the important medicinal plants of India, Iran and many other countries and due to its specific ecological requirements it is grown only in a limited area of these countries (19, 24). About 90% of Iranian cumin designated for export is grown in Khorasan and the rest is produced in Kerman, Semnan, East Azerbaijan, Fars and Yazd provinces (14, 22, 24) Nearly the same ratio of Indian cumin is produced in Rajasthan. Cumin production is economically justified in water-limited areas and since this crop is mainly grown for export, farmers are assured of a stable and reasonable price (12 , 1 4 , 2 2 , 24, 26).
