ABSTRACT

Water excretions from pistils of Hippeastrum hybridum have no fluorescence or, have weak ones with maximum at 440-460 nm (Roshchina et al., 1996; Roshchina, 1999a). Perhaps, this is due to the presence, mainly of sugars, which do not fluoresce in the visible region of the spectrum. Unlike acetonic extracts from pollens, analogous fraction from pistils had not only weak emission in the blue region (460470 nm) of the spectrum, but also - intensive emission in red at 680 nm. Significant maximum 680 nm is related to chlorophyll and is also seen in the fluorescent spectra of intact pistil. Benzene fraction of pistils fluoresces with two maxima in blue at 460470 nm and in green-yellow at 500-540 nm which is peculiar to terpenoids and carotenoids, relatively (Chappele et al., 1990; Roshchina et al., 1998a; Roshchina and Melnikova, 1999; 2001; Roshchina and Roshchina, 2003).
