ABSTRACT
Nelson (2006) recognizes division of the Euteleostomi into two classes, the Actinopterygii and the Sarcopterygii. The Actinopterygii are the ray-finned fishes and contain the subclasses Cladistia, Chondrostei and Neopterygii. The Sarcopterygii are divided into the subclass Coelacanthimorpha (Actinistia) and the subclass Dipnotetrapodomorpha (named for the contained lungfishes and tetrapods) (Fig. 7.1).
