ABSTRACT

As you can imagine, this has fundamentally changed the way telecom serv­ ice providers, large and small alike, operate. This telecom tsunami has sent economic ripples throughout the world. When a service as basic as telecom­ munications undergoes a draconian change, its impact is felt far and wide. At the onset of the millennium (in 2000, or 2001, depending on your calendar numbering system), the changes had become so fundamental that even the unthinkable was on the tip of many an industry pundit’s tongue — the mighty, indefatigable AT&T might be teetering on the brink of disaster.
