ABSTRACT
We compare the dual-weighted error estim ator with the traditional energy-norm error estimator which in this case reads as follows:
with the notation as introduced above. Clearly, small ||V e||n implies small E(uh) , but not vice versa. Hence, mesh adaptation based on the energy-error estimator may result in overly refined meshes. This is clearly seen in Figure 5.1.
