This quantity is an adiabatic invariant, known to remain constant up to oscilla­

tions of size 0 (oj~1) on time intervals that are exponentially long in w, i.e., for t < eCUJ ; see [BGG87, GGMV92, HaL99]. The numerical oscillatory energy also

shows no drift. Comparing the two pictures, it is seen that the average value of I becomes smaller by about the same amount as that of the total energy H .
