ABSTRACT

A low-level nuclear power programme in the U.K., that is, a rolling programme that does little except replace worn-out nuclear power stations, has a commitment to employ roughly 50 000 persons and an annual replacement requirement therefore of the order of 2 000 to 3 000 p.a. A more buoyant programme would make larger demands, but even a moratorium would require a core of professionals and workers for decommissioning and waste-processing and disposal.
