ABSTRACT
Coiled springs are useful in many practical applications. Springs exhibit flexibility, with either a linear or a nonlinear relationship between deflection and load. Springs have been extensively studied by mechanical designers. They are mass produced (low cost) and can be classified as wire springs, flat springs, and specially shaped springs. Springs are designed to store energy. The overall configuration of the spring family is shown in Figure 7.1.
