ABSTRACT
Industrial ecology applies the structure and processes of the natural ecosystem for organizing activities across several domains: materials, energy, environmental quality, and information exchange. To support the increasing consumption of raw materials and other resources and production in developing society, industrial ecology emphasizes the concept of sustainability-which means composite (integrated) development while consuming as few resources as possible and minimizing the pollution of land, water, and air.
