ABSTRACT

Latent, that is, not directly observable, spatial phenomena can be operationalized and thus mapped by integrating multiple sets of indicators. Spatial representation of such complex phenomena, in order to be useful to decision makers in di§erent domains, needs to be likewise e¶cient and robust. Drawing from the experiences in object-based image analysis (OBIA) and the spatial integration of multidimensional image data, regionalization techniques can be applied to map, analyze, and represent these phenomena in a spatial explicit way.
