ABSTRACT
The basic principles and the past, present and future role of thin layer chromatography (TLC) in modern residue analysis are discussed. Quality criteria for the use of TLC in residue analysis are reviewed and compared with those of other chromatographic methods. The future for TLC in residue analysis will depend largely upon the possibilities for automation and for specific detection at low detection limits.
