ABSTRACT

DNA Replication So that all the cells of the body can have identical DNA, when cells divide (beginning with the fertilized egg) their DNA must be replicated in a highly precise manner (Fig. 4-4A). This process of replication, which involves the separation of the two strands of DNA and the use of each strand to act as a template for the formation of a new strand, is under the control of a team of enzymes. Enzymes are almost always protein molecules, although some RNA (RNA is discussed under Transcription in the following text) molecules may also act as enzymes.
