ABSTRACT

T he urinary and reproductive systems are considered together because of I their close structural relationship in both time and space. Both systems arise simultaneously from the intermediate mesoderm. In fact, the developing

reproductive system scavenges parts from the early urinary system as progressively more advanced versions of the urinary system develop. The external genitalia arise on the surface of the body. Because the urethra (canal from the bladder), running through the penis (part of the male external genitalia), is a urogenital duct and the female urethra and vagina open into the vestibule (part of the female external genitalia), it is reasonable to include development of the external genitalia here.
