ABSTRACT

At its periphery, the nucleus has a nuclear membrane, which separates the nuclear contents from the cytoplasm. If we examined the nuclear membrane with an electron microscope, we would see a two-layered "envelope," consisting of two membranes separated by a fluid-filled space. We would also see a large number of nuclear pores perforating the membrane.
