ABSTRACT

The overview of impact assessment results and the detailed discussions of permitting actions at different categories of generating facilities in Maryland reinforce the basis for Maryland’s perspectives on AEI presented earlier in the paper:

• Quantification of the effects of water withdrawal (i.e., numbers of organisms lost due to entrainment and impingement) is necessary but not sufficient to determine whether AEIs are occurring; the key is whether these effects are of consequence to a biological entity of concern (e.g., RIS population).
