ABSTRACT

Computer applications are widely used throughout the drainage sector. Most of them are successors of previously used laborious conventional methods (described in chapters 7, 8 and 9) but some have introduced new methodologies and concepts. Although many of the conventional methods have now been replaced by computer programs, many of these remain of value since they provide specific understanding which the computer programs do not provide. The computer programs on the other hand provide insights which conventional methods do not provide. Drainage engineers should therefore be familiar which both methodologies and use them inter-actively.
