INTRODUCTION

The Leishmaniases

Several species of the flagellated protozoan parasite Leishmania are responsible for causing leishmaniasis in Man, which may present as a visceral, cutaneous or mucocutaneous disease. The exact clinical presentation depends on parasite species, geographical location and immune status of the infected individual.
