ABSTRACT

Intermediate stiffeners are becoming more widely used in cold formed steel members. The advantages of replacing slender elements by more effective sub-elements of relatively compact proportions at the expense of a little extra material for the stiffener are apparent. As with edge stiffeners the intermediate stiffeners used must have adequate rigidity to prevent deflection in the element in the region of the stiffener. Adequate and inadequate stiffeners of this type are illustrated in Fig. 3.33. The adequacy requirements of this type of stiffener have been subject to the same discussion and examination as those for edge stiffeners. Those
