ABSTRACT

Monitoring environmental contaminants involves analytical chemistry. Entire books have been written on this subject and some scientists have spent their whole careers studying single analytical techniques. For this reason this chapter can only be a very cursory overview of the subject. It is intended only to introduce the bones of the subject and to illustrate the importance of a knowledge of analytical chemistry to the environmental toxicologist.
