ABSTRACT

In a more global sense people are exposed to chemicals in less direct ways. Pesticides, medicines and the waste from both the home and industry eventually find

their way into rivers, streams, the sea, land and air and so exert their effects upon humans via the food chain or by direct exposure. These issues form important aspects of legislation and Government Advisory Groups and Working Parties have been set up to monitor the chemicals that contaminate our world (e.g. the Working Party on Pesticide Residues which looks at pesticides in our food). We return to these later.
