ABSTRACT

While it may appear a simple matter to meet these requirements, many practical difficulties present themselves in accomplishing this with the highest possible degree of safety, efficiency and reliability, and with the lowest cost of operation. The kind of fuel, the rate at which it is fired, the method of firing, the form and thickness of the fuel bed in the case of coal, the way air is supplied, the size of the furnace and the character of its wall linings, and the method of removing ash and residue, all influence the operation of the furnace, including the most efficient combustion in the furnace.
