ABSTRACT
We have found a simple and efficient method of locating local maxima and minima for functions on an open subset of R2. In arriving at this method we had to assume on a number of occasions that our functions were sufficiently regular. We must now be a little more precise about this, otherwise we will not be sure if we are applying the method in suitable situations.
