Local existence

In this chapter we first prove a local existence theorem for the initial bound­ ary value problem (5.1)-(5.4) by using the Banach contraction mapping theorem and the theory for linear hyperbolic and parabolic equations es­ tablished in Appendix A. Then we state a local existence theorem for the Cauchy problem and give the sketch of its proof.
