ABSTRACT
In this representation, rectangular Cartesian axes are used with the real axis
(x-axis) horizontal and the imaginary axis (y -axis) vertical. The complex
number z/a/ib is then represented either as the point with coordinates (a , b), or as the directed line from the origin to the point (a , b ) with the
direction indicated by an arrow on the line pointing away from the origin.
