ABSTRACT

GAMMA rays are pure electromagnetic energy capable of propagating through space and interacting with materials. Gamma rays make up the

very high-frequency end of the electromagnetic spectrum that consists of many other forms of radiation including X-rays, visible light and very low-frequency radio waves. Figure 2.1 shows how gamma rays fit into the overall electromagnetic spectrum. All of the different sources of radiation shown in Figure 2.1 belong to the same electromagnetic spectrum and differ only in the frequency of the radiation.
