ABSTRACT

INTRODUCTION While the application of metal-rich sewage sludge to land has received considerable attention in recent years most studies have been concerned with its incorporation into tillage soils. On grassland different conditions obtain necessating different approaches and strategies for application. While its effect on grass production may be considerable (O’Riordan 1983) the surface accumulation of metals in grass swards can be undesirable under grazing systems. Some indication of the extent of this surface accumulation is shown in Fig. 1.
