ABSTRACT
Current research on the behavior and strength of composite beams with web openings is reviewed. The studies include beams with both solid and ribbed slabs. Research has demonstrated that the concrete slab contributes significantly to both flexural and shear strength at an opening. A practical design procedure is presented and compared with test results. Guidelines for detailing are presented.
