ABSTRACT

The influence of a deformable connection on the stress distribution and deflections of composite girders and vertical tubular structures is studied and various methods of analysis are presented. Simplified methods of analysis are proposed and are intended for use as design tools. The effect of the deformability of the connection between the steel and concrete parts is demonstrated on typical composite structures. The difference in structural performance between composite girders with deformable connection and composite tubular structures is highlighted. Recommendations and design formulae derived from parametric studies are presented.
