ABSTRACT
The beam-column-defined as a member subject to bending and compression-is the basic load-resisting component of a framed structure. Not surprisingly the topic has received considerable attention from researchers anxious to understand its elastic and inelastic response to various combinations of applied loading. In the case of members of open cross-section the possibility of torsional deformation is an added complication.
