ABSTRACT

When a reinforced concrete beam cross section is subjected to a cyclic

bending moment, the maximum bending moment being higher than that of

slippage or yielding of steel and lower than that of concrete fracture, a

shake-down phenomenon due to slippage or plastic deformation of the steel

reinforcement occurs. Up to a certain value of the bending moment the

shake-down is elastic; above this value, it becomes plastic and dissipa

tive .
