ABSTRACT

ABSTRACT A model has been developed that determines the optimal values of the storage capacity and treatment rate for a stormwater detention unit in terms of pollutant trap efficiency. Runoff event variables are treated as random variables in a lumped storage model of the detention unit. The derived probability distributions are utilized to obtain expressions for the pollutant trap efficiency under uniform loading conditions in terms of the distribution of overflows, and for non-uniform loading in terms of the standard first-order load equation. For a specified trap efficiency level the optimal design values of the storage capacity and runoff treatment rate are obtained.
