ABSTRACT

In order to ensure the integrity and robustness of results obtained in a site-specific probabilistic seismic hazard assessment, criteria for the confidence which may be vested in the available instrumental data are needed. Such data may contribute both to seismotectonic understanding and to decisions on the parameters of calculational seismic source models for hazard evaluation, for example, by informing judgements on seismogenic depths or the relative vulnerability of faults to reactivation.
