ABSTRACT

The results of a study are presented comparing in-plane stabi lity aspects, ductility demand and sway limitations of pitchedroof steel frames designed by simple plastic analysis. The ob ject of the study has been to identify domains governed by sta bility, ductility or sway. It has been concluded that for prac tical frameworks in-plane stability is never critical. Sway li mits, ductility requirements and practical slenderness limits govern the design.
