ABSTRACT

Introduction Lipoprotein (a) (Lp(a)) as well as low-density lipoprotein (LDL) is raised in the dominantly inherited condition, familial hypercholesterolaemia (FH). Lp(a) is notoriously difficult to lower. This year van Wissen et al. have reported that its level does decline with statin therapy when this is prolonged. Additionally, de Jongh and co-workers have published a report which will undoubtedly stimulate further research to establish the place of statin therapy in childhood FH.
