Metalliferous mining and subsidence

The formation of orebodies is highly varied and complex with several processes being involved in their generation (Evans, 1993). Consequently, there are several underground mining methods used for the extraction of metalliferous deposits. These may be classified according to the type of support used. Supported mining methods may be classified further depending on whether rock or artificial supports are used. In general the main methods are summarized in Figure 4.1.
