ABSTRACT

Complexity is the latest in a series of science concepts to achieve wide spread recognition both in the scientific and popular scientific literature. Predecessors include catastrophe theory [1], fractal geometry [2] in nature, cellular automata [3], non-linear dynamics [4] and chaos theory [5]. Each of these concepts has claimed intellectual breakthroughs, led to establish ment of new areas of research (evidenced by journals with corresponding titles), and attracted a wide range of people to study the new horizons each viewpoint exposed. The latest such concept, complexity, has even captured the attention of non-scientists such as military strategists, economists and stock market analysts.
