ABSTRACT

High speed, heavy duty highways are an important concrete pavement application. Concrete pavement has been an essential component of the interstate highway system in the United States as well as similar systems around the world. For many years in the United States, the AASHTO 1993 Design Guide

and its predecessors have been used to design both asphalt and concrete pavements. Other available concrete pavement design methods include the PCA 1984 procedure and the AASHTO 1998 Supplement procedure. These are expected to be replaced by the M-EPDG, but full implementation of the new procedure will be dependent on local calibration studies and may take many years.
