ABSTRACT

In reinforced concrete beams, the compressive and tensile forces are resisted by concrete and reinforcement, respectively. In almost all cases, repair and rehabilitation are carried out to increase the tensile force capacity or to result in a larger moment capacity of the existing beam. Bonding steel plates to the tension face with epoxy was a popular repair method for more than two decades. However, the use of high-strength composites has become popular because of their lowweight and their resistance to corrosion (ACI Committee 440, 1996).
