ABSTRACT
This chapter discusses general principles, considerations, criteria, and methods for the design of track foundation that includes the geotechnical layers under the rails and ties. Three types of track foundations are described in detail in this chapter, including conventional ballasted track, asphalt track, and slab track. Design considerations for track transitions are also discussed in this chapter, because it is often a location where track tends to have more problems.
