High damage potential, relatively high pore pressures and limited pre-construction accessibility are the main features of subaqueous tunnels. In addition to the high cost of marine operations, ship traffic or sea currents may make exploratory campaigns or ground improvement works extremely difficult, even if the overburden or the sea depth are small. This increases planning uncertainty and narrows the range of technical options for construction.
