The critical limit state for reinforced concrete structures will generally be ultimate, so we shall start the design procedure by assuming this.
First we have to find the distribution of moments and forces by analysing the structure. Quite obviously we can analyse a structure as a complete structural frame and where computer programs are available this will be done. In other cases hand methods or small computers will be used and in this case it will generally be more convenient to analyse parts of a complete frame.
