ABSTRACT
It was realised at an early stage that the friction factor varied not only with the roughness of the pipe walls but also with the diameter and velocity. This indicated that A was not a simple coefficient, as once supposed, but an overall coefficient, which had to represent the com bined effect of several variables. Furthermore hf was not dependent on the square of F but on F raised to some slightly lesser power.
