Utilising Eq. (8.35) we are now in a position to sketch in outline the profile curves for the various types of slope and the known relationships of d, dn, and dc. The reader can investigate for himself whether the numerator, denominator, and the resulting quotient will be positive or negative. The profiles are depicted in Fig. 8.13. An exaggerated vertical scale has necessarily been adopted. Accompanying each profile is a typical site condition with which it could be associated. It will be observed that there are three possible profiles for slope types M and S and two possible profiles each for the remainder, making twelve in all.
