ABSTRACT

In the foregoing chapters, the discussion has generally been restricted to structural behaviour in the elastic range, and the reader's attention was mainly directed to the stresses and deformations under working load. In this chapter, however, the behaviour of beams and frames in the plastic range will be examined; the aim is to develop a plastic theory for the determination of the ultimate-load capacities of structures.
