ABSTRACT

The present chapter is concerned with the analysis of reinforced concrete plane frames, with or without prestressing, accounting for the effects of cracking. The general displacement method of analysis (Section 5.2) is used for this purpose. The structures are here considered in service condition, in which the stress-strain relation for concrete can be assumed linear. Cracking, however, causes non-linearity; therefore, the analysis requires iterative compu¬ tations using a computer. Analysis beyond service condition up to failure requires consideration of the non-linear stress-strain relationship for the con¬ crete and the reinforcement; this is beyond the scope of this book. Shear deformations are ignored in the analysis presented below.
