ABSTRACT
In some respects HTA appears dogmatic and prescriptive, despite the fact that, as discussed in previous chapters, plans are able to represent tasks in very varied ways. In this chapter we shall consider issues of flexibility, constraints on how tasks are carried out, and how cognition needs to relate to the context in which the task is carried out. HTA helps the analyst recognise when these causes of variation may affect human performance.
