ABSTRACT

The following section introduces the topic and indicates the advantage to motorists of using the WWW, particularly if maps are provided. This is followed by a description of the types of information given on traffic sites and how this information is presented and graphically visualised to the end user (Section 12.3). The general needs of motorists are also investigated here. Based on the these needs, possible improvements to current traffic sites and especially to their graphics, are suggested (Section 12.4). The final section gives a brief overview of future developments and cartographic innovations that can be useful for traffic web maps.
