ABSTRACT
Progress in understanding terrestrial motion combined with the discovery of a new earth. Voyages to circumnavigate the globe intertwined with advances in reckoning passage of time. A synthesis emerged between circumnavigation and time-keeping, cyclic motion and circular motion. A surprising connection leaped out from earth’s daily rotation. New insights into circular motion on earth opened understanding of circular motion in the heavens.
