ABSTRACT
I. INTRODUCTION The key to the performance and properties of composite materials is the ability of the matrix to transfer load, through shear, to the reinforcing fibers. A knowl edge of the mechanics and mechanisms of fiber-matrix adhesion leads to a better understanding of its role in composite strength and to better design and utilization of composites for appropriate applications.
