amounts of the lectin are needed by the plant in order to form an im­ pervious crosslinked matrix as a defense mechanism. Such plant de­ fense could be a valuable tool and is one of the approaches that has been considered for genetic modification of crops to confer pest resistance (e.g., involving snowdrop lectin to deal with aphids [4]).
